Paloma Gardens

Paloma Gardens and Higgy’s Giggy
Monday, 31st, Cool, Blustery and overcast.

Intending a quick visit to downtown Wanganui for coffee, we pulled up next to a pristine 1967 Buick Riviera, so we sat down to lattes with the owner and his partner and talked Buicks.
Upon reaching Paloma Gardens, the garden of Clive and Nikki Higgy, we found no one home but the garden available for visit.
Frankly a bit disheveled around the house, I underestimated the expanse of the garden. Wandering towards the car park to open the car I spotted a small gate which then led to the grand portion of an other-wordly garden of succulents, palms new world cactus and ornament of many sorts.

Only Lotusland in Montecito Caifornina, gave me the same impressions. Not a garden I would ever want to have or tend, but intriguing to visit. Due to the aforementioned weather conditions, those of you that understand, “Higgy’s Giggy” was not visible on our visit.

Oh well, maybe next time. Upon our return to the car, we met the Higgys in the drive, and had a nice chat. They had visited Chanticleer some 12 years ago and are considering a North and South America motorcycle holiday for next year. I need to think bigger.
